Do you think this is strange?

I always buy the gifts for my parent's birthdays, anniversarys, mother and fathers day, etc...and my brother will pay for half.

My brother would have no idea what to get them (they are very hard to shop for), and I really don't mind doing it. Plus, we could get a nicer gift if we chip in.

Dh thinks that its strange that I am still buying gifts "for" my brother, but I feel this is fine, until he is married and has some "help", and then maybe we can switch off.

Opinions?

My brother lives in AZ and it's not worth it for him to buy stuff and ship it here so I always do his shopping.

Re: Do you think this is strange?

I totally don't think it is strange. I have a younger sister and we do the same thing. She doesn't make too much and until she is established I feel like I have to help her out too. Like you said, when you go in together you can get something nicer.

Re: Do you think this is strange?

I have an older sister and two younger brothers. My sister usually comes up with the best gift ideas and then we all chip in. I don't think it's strange at all....

If you don't mind doing it, I really don't see a problem.

My sisters & I would discuss gifts & all go in together. I do think he needs to start having input so when he is on his own he knows their tastes.

Well, not just go in together...

I always come up with the ideas and do all the buying, and he just chips in...

Re: Do you think this is strange?

Nah, we do the same thing with my sister since she is single. But usually only for my mom, sometimes my dad. But I notice that my SILs do it too. The younger one goes in a lot with the older one and her hubby for gifts for the folks.

Re: Do you think this is strange?

honestly-- I kinda have the opposite where SIL buys gifts from all the kids-- meaning DH, his brother and SIL's husband. I just feel like we as a couple should be getting our own cards and gifts to his parents. But, I have decided not to argue- since DH does not really get it-- however if there is something that we want to give, meaning my idea and I think it's something they will really like- I also don't think it should be opened up as a free for all.

No I don't think it is strange. I do the same thing and now I shop for all my IL's gifts and my BIL's and SIL's chip in but I am always the person to pick out the gifts. Like a personal gift shopper Chat Icon

Re: Do you think this is strange?

I don't find it strange at all. There are times that I'll find something for my mother and pick it up for the both of us and vice versa.

Uhhh...I can totally relate! Sure, my brother loves it because he doesn't have to do the shopping....It drives me nuts when he waits til the last minute to tell me that he wants to chip in. I am trying to wean him off of that crap...lol. We are both married now, his wife can do the shopping! LOL

I don't think that's strange at all. I buy joint gifts with my sister and whoever has the time to do the shopping gets the gift.

Re: Do you think this is strange?

I don't think it's strange. My brother and I always go in together for gifts for our parents. Sometimes he chooses the gift and sometimes I choose it. I don't think there's anything wrong with you always picking out the gift.
