What type of wood walls are these?

Here is a picture of a random room in our new house. The old owner used it as a beauty salon, but we'll probably use it for storage since it has the water softener tank in it. I trulyd can NOT stand the smell in this room. My mom thinks its from the wood. I think its cedar. We will eventually take the walls down and sheet rock, but until we have the time and money to do that, any suggestions on how to improve the smell in this room so I don't gag!! It also seems to attract flies. Every time I go in there (I keep the door closed) there's 5 new flies in there. I kill them and come back and there's more. So strange.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yep-that's Pine

You may have some mold behind the walls..that could be what you are smelling.

Try to hang something in there like Evercare Cedar blocks. They take some of the odor out and I hang Damp rid in my bathroom to fend off musty odors from the humidity in the shower.

mold scares me! Do you think its best to tear the wood out or am I opening a can of worms?

IMO, rip it out. I would be afraid of mold too!

the smell is coming from something. If you think it's the walls, I would take a panel down and check it out.

Looks like knotty pine to me! ETS: Is it possible that there is moisture in the room. If so that could be a reason why it smells. Try putting a dehumidifier in the room. It might help

There's definitely moisture we put a dehumidifier in there and its definitely helping, but I just don't think i like the smell. We are going to take down the wood as soon we some extra time and $$.
