I have one big LR, small hall and stairs to do. I am looking for a reasonable price. I am in Nassau.

we bought our own steam cleaner from target for 99 and I did it myself. It was really easy to do. You can even rent the machine from places like your supermarket.

My mother usually calls Sears...they do a good job. She has 2 small dogs that shed...so they get the carpet steamed every 3 months to get any dog smell out.
Their Carpet in the living Room and Dining room are both over 10 years old....and really are in great condition.
I see the adds and coupons all the time in Penny Saver and Yankee Trader.

Re: Anyone have a person they used to clean their carpet?
We are in NJ but I recently used Stanley Steemer. They were not the cheapest, but they also weren't the most expensive.
If you do use a place rather than doing it yourself, be sure to include EVRYTHING! We have a landing in our stairwell that wasn't included in the price! Also, the insides of closets (we have 2 w/in in the master and 1 w/in in each of the other 2 bedrooms). I work fulltime so my sister was there when they came. I had the check all filled out for the amount I was quoted so theycouldn't try to "add" anything on while they are there. Of course she had to pay a FEW $$ more for the landing and one of the closets that she felt needed it. They ALL try to tell you that you need things you don't need. We decided to only do steam cleaning, not the protecting or anything. The carpets were actually in really great shape but I get skeeved about walking barefoot in places where I know someone else has done the same (and worse!).
Also, some places won't move the furniture while others do it at no additional charge and will even supply you with carpet protects for under the legs once the chairs/table/couches are put back.
