What is the non-stress machine?

I don't even know if I'm calling it the right thing...but, I'm seeing the doctor this afternoon and they're going to check to see if I'm dilated anymore and if in fact I'm in labor...they also said they may put me on the non-stress machine...but, I don't really know what this is...

Can you enlighten me???

Non-stress test???

They hook you up to a fetal monitor and give you a remote. Every time you feel the baby move you press the button.

Yep. What Stephanie said. It checks to make sure that the baby isn't okay and not in stress =:)

I had a LOT of experienc with non stress machines -- basically its called an NST (non-stress test) -- i was getting them 1-2 times a week from 34 weeks on because of the gestational diabetes. they did a lot of monitoring on me.

you lay on the table, they hook you up to a fetal heart rate monitor. two things get hooked up. one is the fetal heart rate, the other tests for contractions. you get a little button that you push whenever you feel the baby move..even if it's a tiny flutter. basically they are looking for the babies heart rate to go up once or twice in a 5-10 minute period and also for fetal movement to know that the baby respons to activity and stuff like that.

they can also tell if you are having contractions yet and how severe they are.
