How do you feel about your friends and/or family being your neighbors?
I'm not big fan. I once had a bad experience with living too close to some friends. I felt we had no privacy. I need my privacy. I don't mind living close, but it has to be a car ride away NOT walking distance!!

totally depends on who it is. I wouldn't want any of our parents within walking distance (though they're only 4 miles away now), but I wouldn't mind my sisters or some friends.

I wouldn't like it. I need my space.
My girlfriend lives with her BF, they rent from his parents. The BF's friend and brother rent the apt under theirs, and she feels like she lives WITH them. There is no space, no privacy, they are always in her apt. It has put strain on her relationship with her BF.

Yep, this sounds so familiar. It's just too close for comfort. My privacy is just so important to me.

I haven't been in that position, thankfully. But I wonder- how on earth do you tell someone you don't want them living near you? Do you draw a chalk line and say you must live X amount of miles away? What an awful conversation.

My brother/sil lived two doors away when I lived home w/my parents. Let's just say it wasn't an arrangement I cared for. Every coming and going from our house was dually noted. It was annoying...I could never just go out and wash my car without her coming over and causing some distraction.

I dont have many friends- i wouldnt mind living close to all of them.
I lived 3 houses away from my mom for the past 4 years and i love it.

I lived in a duplex with my sister. We loved it -but it did get annyoing when we were sick & taking a vacation day. We would get phone calls - "how come you're not at work?"

It would be like life on Everbody Loves Raymond for me. They would be over ALL the time. My mom would just walk in and raid my fridge. His dad would decide something needed to be fixed and would just do it at 6am. They would both be telling me what I should do so my house wasn't an "eye sore" they had to look at everyday. No way!

Definitely not the same block or anywhere in walking distance. Same town is ok, as long as it is a car ride, and it is not "on the way". If they passed my house or block regularly on the way to theirs, it would be a problem!
Friends I don't think I would mind too much.

I would love it. I wish we could afford to sell the house now and move back to Babylon. I thought moving to Selden to be closer to his daughter (Rocky Point) was being nice. I didnt realize he wouldnt see his daughter anymore than he already did and that his ex-wife would be stopping by our house (to keep tabs) so often. I told my husband no more than 6 more years here and then Im going back, he can come or stay but I want to be with my family.

Our best friends live in the house next door to us. It's great! It makes us not want to move, even though the time and market are right to maximize our investment. It's just too cool to have them so close! We're closer with them than any family members - and I'm pretty darn close with my sister!

When I lived in Spain, I became best friends with my neighbor - and my ex with her DH. Well, guess what happened????? Yep, the old cliche!!!
So I would say -- no, I don't want any friends TOO close, and I will not get so close with any of my neighbors now, either...all though we are friendly with them.

I live very close to many people. My aunt's family is directly across the street. My uncle's family in 6 houses up from us. My other uncle's family is 1 block over. And another uncle is 2 blocks down. My aunt and grandmother have an apartment 4 blocks away. I always see someone at the bank or the store.
I don't mind it at all. Sometimes my aunts get a little nosey, but I love seeing all my little cousins on a daily basis. I will miss it when I move.
In Florida, DH and I lived in the same apartment complex with many of my friends and co workers. It was nice. But I am also a mega people person.

My only family close to me now are my aunt & uncle who live 10 minutes from me. My mom dad sister and friends are all in Queens and I am in NJ. I love it here but miss being able to just pop by and all sometimes.
