I went to the doctors office today, an ENT, and I was 1/2 hour early. I was going back for a recheck of a sinus infection. I was sitting at this point 1 hour and had to go to the bathroom BAD. I asked where the bathroom was and they told me downstairs , and gave me the key. I went downstairs, and one bathroom was locked, there was something wrong with it, and the other one was dirty, filthy, and had feces all over the place. I went back up and told them and they said I could not use there bathroom. The office manager told me it is for employees only and starting to scream at me, LOUDLY. She told me I am not HIPPA compliant etc. I am HIPPA compliant I have been managing a doctors office for 15 years. I told her she can call whoever she need to call to check, can I please use the bathroom. I answered her in a stern way, I was angry and had to go badly. I had drank 32 oz of water a little before I left to go, not thinking I would be sitting that long to see the doctor . I also told her I was going to say something to the doctor. I felt like I was being spoken to like an animal. So the docotor comes in and I say something very nicely, and he says he was not here for it , it is he said / she said sitiuation and he spoke down to me and gave me a lectore he pays a lot of rent and managment should be taking care of the bathrooms, I could have spilled a chemical in the bathroom, I told him I am HIPPA complaint , etc. I could hardly get a word in edge wise. Then he said if u were in NYC and had to go u would just go even if it was a port a pottie. I have my limits. So I then get examined, and get called back into the room after he does some tests, and he tells me he just lost his spouse 4 months ago, and he is irriatable etc. At this point I feel bad for the man, I told the manager I am sorry if I came acorss as irratable, but I was waiting at that point a long time and had to go, if I had left I would have missed my apoointment. So I kind of smoothed thing out, I am very easy going. ( I am certified in Geratrics, if that can explian my personality, and have my degree in Health care management.). I would have let a patient go if it was an emergency. To me it was inhumane, and I did not like the way I was handled by this one gorl , and when he asked the assiastant what had happened becuase hehe was not there she did not want to answer. he also I felt spoke down to me and then lightned up. I thought I found a good ENT, and now I do not know if I should go back.PS My sister who is a doctor told me she would have walked out and never went back. What would u do???? Does anyone have a good ENT in Nassau, south shore??? Was I so wrong?

That's disgusting! Personally, I don't think your were wrong. And I wouldn't go back to this doc either. I would never tell a pt they couldn't use our BR just b/c it was for employees! I work in geriatrics, too! I have an ENT in New Hyde Park. FM me if you'd like the info.

That is absolutely HORRIBLE that they put you through that.
I would have walked out immediately. I cant stand when a receptionist or anyone in a doctor;'s office speaks to me like I have SH$T for brains.

What does being HIPPA compiliant have anything to do with using a clean restroom? That is outrageous! Especially if they knew you are also in the medical field. I can not believe that they would treat a patient like that. I would not only NEVER go to that office again, but I woulf file a complaint against all of them.

I had to take a course about being hippa complient and for the life of me I cant figure out what hippa and having to goto the bathroom have in common.

Which bathroom did you wind up using? I don't know what I would have done, but I wouldn't look forward to going back there!

I seriously can not believe that they wouldn't let you use the bathroom under those circumstances. Sometimes I am very surprised at how people are treated in doctors' offices. I, for one, would not feel comfortable going back. However, if you feel like you smoothed things over, maybe next time they would make sure to treat you much differently!!

I wouldn't go back to that doctor. For one, I would not give them the business after being treated so shabbily and second, there is no excuse for a bathroom in a medical facility to be so unsanitary.

HIPPA compliant in that office had to do with x ray film, and developer near the bathroom area. So crazy. I do not think I am going to go back there, why should they get paid good money from my insurance company when they treated me like garbage!

Eew, that's outrageous, esp. in a doctor's office. Thank GOD you didn't get that door open, you probably would have caught an infectuous disease if they don't clean the bathrooms down there and let sick patients use them. EEW! Do NOT go back there!

that is really horrible - i would not go back - and i would have to follow up with a complaint letter
