Spinoff to kitchen renovation....

we are going to 'spruce up' our outdated kitchen temporarily, until we can do the COMPLETE kitchen overhall (gutting, new appl's, granite, etc..)....

so, in the meantime, i'm going to paint the dark brown laminate cabinets, replace the hardware, remove the existing wallpaper, paint, etc.....

on one wall, (the backsplash and behind the stove), is that fake brick - red -
what colors (for the walls) do you think would compliment the brick?? or should i just paint over them completely?? Chat Icon

i was thinking about going with a color scheme similar to the colors in this pic:

Do you have a pic of the kitchen?

Are you good at photoshop? Maybe you can put the colors in and try a few combinations.

I really like the rich colors in that picture.

Don't be afraid to try darker colors they can really dress up a space.

Worse comes to worse it's only paint and it's quick to fix.

I've painted dozens of rooms... seriously 3 housesChat Icon and I've only changed my mind twice on color. Both times I just tweaked the shade I had.

If you are embarrassed FM me a pic.

I would paint the walls that dark beige/gold in the background of that picture and then do your curtains in that rich burnt red color, place red and black accents around the kitchen like pillows for the chairs, napkins, place settings. and leave the brick for the backsplash to give it that italian brick oven feel and would get that inspiration picture and hang it too.

I like those colors.

I would paint over the brick- I've seen real brick painted over with off white and it doesn't look bad. And that would go with the color scheme from that print (I love warm colors). What color are you going to paint the cabinets? If you did those in an off white shade too then there would be some unity there.

You know, I wonder if you can pull down the faux brick (even though it's SO sexy! Chat Icon) If the wall underneath isn't in great shape you could do any number of things- mosaic, beadboard (cheap and easy, we put it in our LR), a neurtral wallpaper or Venetian plaster?

probably just easier (and cheaper) to just either leave it as is, ..or paint over it!Chat Icon

I really like that picture, and this it's a great jumping off point for your mini renovation.

I think a mocca or beige color might go nicely.
