Saw something interesting on CNN the other night.
Dakota Fanning just shot a movie where her character gets brutally raped. She is 12 years old, and appears in the movie as wearing nothing more then underwear.
There is oscar buzz surrounding her already for this role.
Where her parents wrong for allowing this?
I would not be game. I think the last thing a child needs is some man breathing over them in a fake rape scene.
just wondering..

I believe she's going to play the main character in the Lovely Bones and that's the role they are referring to.
It's an incredible book, but the rape is necessary to the story line and I'm sure they will not make it too graphic.

I think in the Hollywood world and with all her experience she can probably handle it. And hopefully her parents thought that through.

believe me, they can find an 18 year old that looks 12 that can act if they look hard enough.
I think she's too youg to play such a role.

I think something similar happened with Brooke Shields when she was 12. She was in a movie called Pretty Baby where she played a child prosititute and did a nude bath scene. I wonder whether these parents really have their children's best interests at heart. I think these are tough issues to tackle as a 12 year old.

I don't know. I think if she was 15 or 16, was very mature and we had a long discussion about it, I might consider it. I still might not consent, but 12 is way too young IMO, even with her acting experience.
I think adults forget that even when children are exposed to a lot that is not age approriate, they are still not developementally at an age where they can process it.

that's the same thing that came to my mind. I believe to this day, Brooke and her mother have a very strained relationship. I think that is more due to her mother's pushing though, than that one role.

Jodie Foster was 12 when she appeared in Taxi Driver as a teenage prostitute. Brook Shields was very young when she was in Pretty Baby. Their characters weren't brutally raped, but they were still VERY young in these roles.
I guess that some Hollywood parents seem to be fine with their children taking on these parts.

Maybe I'm being naive, but I think with Hollywood standards and practices watching and the book being so popular and Dakota's career being what it has been so far for only being 12 it doesn't bother me.
I really don't think they would alienate entire audiences by making it too racy or graphic, even though the book is very graphic. 
Honestly the only thing that gives me pause is that I'm sick of her!! She's the little girl in EVERYTHING these days!
Is there no other young talent in Hollywood? Charlotte's Web, Lovely Bones and Secret Lives of Bees are all coming out with her in them. Enough Dakota!!

Wasn't the girl in The Lovely Bones older than 12 I think she herself is too young for the role.
This reminds me of when Kirsten Dunst was in Interview with a Vampire. That was a pretty heavy role for a kid to do.

even though they say its just acting
i dont like the idea of her doing a role like that . she is way to young to even see what could happen let alone act it out

this is a total side note: a friend of mine saw dakota fanning getting rip roaring drunk recently at a nyc club...needless to say celeb kids dont act there and obviously rules seem to not apply..
i dont think its bad if she does a rape scene as long as it is done "tastefully" as tastefully as a rape scene good be done i suppose

this is like a time to kill, where of course they don't show the rape, but you see the girls hands chained to a tree and you hear her yelling for her daddy. too sad...but it played a major role in the movie.
