Eye makeup application help

Im used to wearing liquid liner, but find it difficult and time consuming to fill within my lashes.
For the WOTY, the makeup artist used a small brush and applied powder between my lashes seamlessly.
I went out a bought a eye liner brush and used it this weekend, but noticed it left black powder all over my cheecks.
What am I doing wrong? Did I buy the wrong brush because they had a similar one called and eyeshadow brush. Or did I use the wrong eyeshadow (it was powder). Please help Chat Icon

You need to slightly (very little) dampen the brush or I would recommend using a cake liner (bobbi brown makes a great one) instead of eye shadow. Also apply your eye make up BEFORE you put on your foundation or powder. This way if it ends up on your cheek you can use an q-tip and make up remover to get rid of the excess eye shadow.

My guess would be to tap off the excess powder on the brush before you apply. But I've never heard of this technique, (sounds cool!) but the tapping works for me with eyeshadow.

Re: Eye makeup application help

I put foundation and powder on first, so if any flakes I just brush it off.

I do the bottom lashes with a powder. I use a sponge tip applicator that is long and narrow at the end.

maybelline used to make a cake liner too.
Don't know if it is still made.

Re: Eye makeup application help

Maybe its excess. I did the tap, but maybe I'll give it a gentle blow too to take off some excess. I'll also try wetting it and maybe using a cream shadow. Thanks guys!!

I do a little blow too. But some brands are more flaky than others so it also depends on the brand.
