UPDATE: I'm going to Cabo...but I have an identification problem!
Im going to Cabo in December...and was wondering what type of identification I need.
THe problem is my passport is in my maiden name and everything else is in my married name. Any ideas on how I handle this? I was thinking bith certificate but that's obviously my maiden name too.
Im stuck???
So, after many calls and investingating I find out my reservations MUST match my passport. SO I mailed out my passport today with my marriage license and expidited it. I was going to cancel my reservation and rebook, but I felt it was better to have all my documents in the same name. So it cost me $60...oh well. THe funny thing is Im going through a divorce so once its final i have to go back and change it all anyway.

What name is your ticket in?
If it's December, you still have time to do SS and license. But if you have your passport in the same name as your ticket, it's not an issue anyway - that's all you need.

The reservations are in your married name? I would try and see if there is a way you can change that with the airline. I continued to still make some travel plans in my maiden name since my passport is still in it. I don't know any other way you will be able to do this.

You can just send your passport in to have the name changed. There is a form, I think it's like - DS-19 for Amending your passport. You fill that out and send it with your marriage license and they change it for you. I think it says to give it six weeks, but it could be less. And if you want, you can have it done for about $65 and you get it back quicker.

Since you have a month - have you considered going to get the passport name changed in person? You might want to consider paying to have it expedited...worth it to avoid the stress and hassle.

If you're back in the States before Jan 1 you're fine. If not, you need your passport to reenter (new laws). You can expedite the passport process - it takes 2 weeks. It's $60 or something like that (I did it but can't remember). Anyway, I'd do that even if you are scheduled to come back before the new year just in case.

We just got our passports done and it only took them two weeks to get done...you might want to try that.

If I bring my marriage license to the airport with my passport could that work?

No, your passport, if it's what you're using to travel, MUST be in the correct name.
I don't think I understand what you mean about your credit card with your married name

it's ok if the tickets are purchased in another name
the only thing you need is to have your photo ID and airline ticket in the same name.
I still travel as my maiden name because I haven't changed my license or passport yet

I went to Cancun last March with the same problem - I called Customs and they told me to use my passport (maiden name) and marriage certificate (shows both names). Going into Mexico they looked at both and it was fine. Coming back into US, they looked at the passport (maiden name) and just let me through....
But, I know the laws are changing soon, so you'd want to look into it.
And I think the best bet is to just update your passport.

i mailed out my passport for a name change and got it back REALLY fast. i dont think that would be a problem if you sent it right away, i was shocked to have it back within about 2 weeks. (mail the passport with the ORIGINAL marriage license)... no biggie

I woud update your passport- maybe you can go to the passport office. I know that I couldn't because I had no impending flight- but they do expedite it if you do.

I travel alot out of the US and my passport has my Maiden name on it..
Although I have to change it, as Long as I always showed my marriage papers its fine..
Your travel agent can assure you of this..
