Well I am getting an Unsatisfactory Rating for attendance at my job due to ttc

I am a NYC school teacher. I have been for 13 years....been working in the same school. I have a great reputation there....and 'used' to love my job. However, in recent years it's been a horrendous place to work.

I received a letter, from my principal today. (a summons letter). I have to meet with her tomorrow,....although I have doctor notes...from my doctor, she still could give me a U rating for going over my days by 2. I am allowed 10 self treated days and I took 12.

It just infuriates me, that it doesn't matter how hard I worked this year, because I had to go in for the enormous bloodwork, or hsg exam, and even to meet with the doctor because they don't meet with patients after 4 at the first RE I went to.....I will get an unsatisfactory in attendance! My job doesn't allow us to come in an hour late. So therefore, if I had to wait long for an u/s ...I ended up calling in sick. Hell I even took off a day to BD....with DH, because, I was ovulating and, there wasn't enough time to do it before work. Uggh.....Oh, and I knew I could never do IUI until the summer because of the inflexibility of my job.

One would think, that since I have over 40 days in my "sick bank",...these two, shouldn't make a difference......What was the sense in saving my days? I guess next year, I will get another U. lol

That is totally unbelievable. I teach in NYC too and I cannot believe that they might do that to you. My understanding is that you get ten self treated days and you have notes. That is ridiculous.

I am so mad on your behalf. No one is banging down doors to teach in NYC but we are treated like dirt.

Is your UFT person any good (ours is a joke)? I am not always a fan of the union but in a case like this I would really call the borough office if your school person is no help.

ETA: Can you be told contractually that you cannot be late? Whenever I have been late I just have to punch in. That seems unfair, that you can't come in an hour late. It's better for the kids to be without you for an hour than a full day.

Where do you teach? I am in the Bronx.

I'm so sorry your job is giving you a hard time about being out. I don't know what to say except that I hope that if you explain why you were out they will give you a break. I think from now on you should call out sick! Call out sick a couple of days in a row so it seems like you really are sick...and schedule as many appts. in those 2 days as you can.
It's really not fair that they are doing this to you, I'm sorry!

I can't believe that A) they can give you a U rating when you have doctor's notes and B)you can't come in late. If that were my job I would be screwed! Thankfully my boss has been really good about it.
You probably should talk to your union rep, they should be able to fight for you. Especially if you have banked sick days...what's the point if you can't use them.

I don't have any advice for you, because I don't know how the school system works, I just wanted to come in, show some support and give you a couple of these

I think it completely suc$s that you will end up with a U in attendance when you can provide medical reasoning for your absence

That doesn't seem fair to me either, you have doctors notes, its not like you took off to go to the beach!

Michelle, I just read through your post and I am furious on your behalf! As if this process of TTC isn't hard enough on us, it really is upsetting that your job canont be any more supportive (even though you have eveyrthing documented, have doctor's notes, etc) AND especially after all the years of servcie you have and your previously fine attendance record, you'd think this would count for something

If you have banked sick days I would just use those at this point for your appointments, since the main issue seems to be you coming in late... I know at my office they are pretty inflexible with taking too many 1/2 days BUT as long as I have doctor's notes there is really nothign they can do

I'm sorry you have to go through this, just wanted to give you my suport
