Re: Taking baby to NYC

Some places sell travel car seats that turn into strollers. That might help. Chat Icon

Re: Taking baby to NYC

Hmmm.... I'm so baffled. I would also imagine a cabby wouldn't even want to pick up someone with a stroller. Would take up so much time just getting into the cab Chat Icon

You could always opt for the subway.Chat Icon We usually drive in with our car seats, but on occasions that we needed cabs, we held them on our laps. It wasn't very comforting - especially the way cab drivers drive.

One tip if you're taking the train is to look for handicap signs. I see tons of people every day trying to get strollers up the escalators or stairs. There are elevators everywhere - they just don't know to look for them.

I actually did a ton of research on this last summer because we had to take a cab home from our cruise and it wasnt like we could bring a car seat with us. NYS law is that you do not need a car seat in a cab. We buckled Ryan in (he was 2 1/2) at the time and I jsut prayed he whole way home. I hated it but we had no choice. Good luck!

Re: Taking baby to NYC

OK...so I ended up taking the train in today cause with the rain the radio said there were horrible delays heading in. I didn't want to carry her in the bjorn cause it was such bad whether so I brought the stroller. I also had to take 3 subways to get were i needed to go. 50% of the time I found the elevator but the other 50% me and my sister had to carry the stroller up/down the stairs. Either I couldn't find the elevator or it was broken.

Re: Taking baby to NYC - update at bottom...

I'm a NYC mom (for now) and let me tell you guys, it ain't easy! For a while, the only places I would go were the places I could walk to (in nice weather, of course). Then, I purchased a Snap N Go for my carseat and I started to take cabs. The Snap N Go fits right into the trunk of the cab without folding and the baby goes in the cab with you in it's carseat. It's up to you whether or not you want to somehow buckle them in or not. I usually just prayed and told the cabbie to drive extra slow. There was also the Baby Bjorn option...you can just get in the cab with them in the Bjorn.
I never take the baby on the subway...usually, I'm alone or with one of my friends who also has a baby so getting in and out of subways is impossible!
Now that winter is here, I can't wait to move to LI!!! NYC moms definitely don't have it easy!!

I use the car seat and strap it in - if you have a graco you can see there is a place to slip the seatbelt in on the sides (Top) of the carseat...it's really pretty easy!
