episiotomy question (warning TMI)
If you had an episiotomy did sex hurt afterwards? how long did it take for the pain to go away? DS is 3 months old and it still kind of hurts. Is that normal? DS was a big baby. Maybe that's why? Poor DH, all he needs is another excuse!

Ok here's some TMI back.
It hurt a little bit but it was more a matter of hmmm...lubrication....for 4-6 months. After that it was fine.
I'd suggest talking to your ob/gyn to see what they say.

We still haven't done it because of this. I'm nervous and I know that if I use some sort of lubrication it will be fine but I cant get my brain to say "it's ok" Did I mention that DS is 2 months old  , poor DH, he has been really patient with me.

As soon as the DR gave the go ahead signal i allowed DH to get a little something something . Yes you will need to use some lube as it helps with any discomfort. DD is now 4 mos and we still use lube

I'd say lube was a must for 5-6 months after giving birth. It does get better with time though.

Well for me, its actually not a lubrication problem, I have no problems there, but the actual act of intercourse hurts like hell! I read in my parenting magazine that it can take as long as a year for the tender tissues around the perineum to heal entirely after childbirth. Scar tissue can also cause pain during sex but can be treated with topical medications, therapy or exercises..so be honest with your dr about how much pain you are experiencing. For me, I feel like I am a virgin every time we have relations! And to think a human being came outta there!!!

You should go to your OB and make sure you have no scaring issues or anything else like an infection. I have a c/s but also had scar tissue problems. It took a year before the OB could figure out exactly what was going on...it was a very difficult year because sex was sooooo painful.
Believe it or not, olive oil is a great natural lubricant. My OB told me that.

Yes, it can take up to a year to heal properly. I was going on 9 months here with my first birth. Funny this time though, I was fine right after the go ahead.
A GF recommended estrogen cream. She swears by it!
