Prenatal vitamins before TTC?
I am not TTC quite yet, (am going off the pill after my May pack) but was talking with friends last week and they suggested taking pre-natal vitamins before TTC and when TTC. I have a doctor's appointment scheduled for before then, but wanted your opinions.
Has anyone taken these before TTC? If so what brand and how much are they?
I am currently taking a multi-vitamin with 400mcg of folic acid, do I need to be taking more now?

I started taking prenatal vitamins in April, I got pregnant in Sept. I think you should let your doctor know that you are beginning to try and he/she will prescribe them to you.

I started taking my prenatals a few months before TTC. I take the Stuart prenatals that are sold in CVS. They are over the counter. Good luck!

My doctor prescribed Precare Conceive Vitamins when I told her we were going to start TTC.

I think the vitamins you are taking now are fine...but, like the other girls said, talk to your doctor...they may prescribe different ones. When you are pg, you need more folic acid.

I started taking OTC prenatals when right before we started TTC.
I take and still take CVS brand prenatals, they are cheap, good, no side effects for me and don't need a prescription.

I started taking prenatal vitamins in March. We are not TTC until June. My doc prescribed me PreCare Chewables. (I cant swallow pills)

These are the ones I take too.
The reason you want to start taking prenatals before you start TTC is because it is in the first few weeks of pregnany that the Folic Acid levels are the most vital. You are "technically" pregnant the day after your LMP (Last Menstrual Period) so you are preg for 4 weeks when you get your BFP! Crazy, right?

my doctor just told me to keep taking my regular vitamin (has 400mg folic acid) and supplement with an addl 400msg of folic acid.

I started Prenatals a few months before TTC. My doctor said my Woman's One a Day (400 mg of folic acid) was fine, but I bought CVS Prenatals with 800mg. He put me on a prescription once I conceived.
