Did anyone catch how when they were talking about the other people who were found to have written false things in their memoirs, Larry King said, "yeah, and Jersey killed himself." ***?! Was that really necessary?
James is basically admitting that there are some parts that are fabricated/exaggerated, while saying that the majority of the story is based on truth, and he couldn't have written it without going through his experiences. He and his mother are frequently referring to how the book has helped/inspired many people. James said that he realizes that he now will have to deal with many people doubting many other portions of his book (as Larry said, "if you admit that you lied on page 211, what's to keep people from thinking that you lied on page 311?")

ETA: She basically said that she supports James and continues to support the book. She said that the little details in question are irrelevant in the scheme of the whole book. She also placed the blame on the publisher for not verifying the facts before labeling it a memoir.

Thanks for the info, Jax. I was so mad to have missed this show and the entire story in general has had me pretty confused/upset/taken aback to be honest. And I'm STILL not sure what I think about some of it (but I'm still a huge fan of the books.. I'm halfway thru "Leonard" and just cannot put it down)

thank god for this-- I tivo'd and cause they went over when Oprah called- we missed basically all of her statement..
What was everyone's reaction to what Oprah said? Did Larry finally shut it? He was so annoying.. Leave James alone!

she is backing him because she doesn't want to look like a fool now 
ETA...i have been going back and forth about wanting to read this book. But a co-worker convinced me that we will buy the book and swap. SHe is almost done but i really do not think i am going to bother now...
Reading knowing all of this changes everything
