UGH-I hate policy...does anyone work in a doctor's office and is shady enough to help me out?

I came in late yesterday, not because of the snow, but because my aunt went into the hospital the night before, and I wanted to see what the deal was with her before I went in....she's fine, it was a wierd thing-she had something called a TIA-it's like a mini-stroke...anyway...I put in the time as sick time...and now they are telling me that I can't use sick time unless I have a doctor's note because of the snow...ugh....nevermind that none of them have even turned in request off slips for being late.....grrrr.......sorry I had to vent.

You should of used personal time or vacation time for the missed hours, not sick

If they never asked for a note before and now out of the blue they are, ask them to see it in the employee policy handbook

Good Luck

Or just tell them that you are using personal time instead. Seems weird that they are asking you about this.

they are telling me to either switch it to personal or vacation--but in my office you can take up for 5 sick days out with a note...so I don't know why it's different for a snow day...

Because ethically... you are not supposed to take sick time unless you are legitamtely sick.

If it didn't matter to them... then there is no need to separate "sick" and "personal" time.

My wife wanted to take a sick day on Monday to do the possession / walk-through. Her job knew she was getting the house that day... and I totally objected to her taking a sick day to do this. She was ****** at me cause I wouldn't "endorse" it... and she ended up going to work.

Its a crappy thing to do to an employer IMO and they have every right to think otherwise.

I'm going to have to switch it to personal time...it just doesn't seem right to me, people take off all the time because thier kids are sick, and they use thier sick time, and I took an hour to see what the deal was with my aunt, and I'm not allowed because there was 2 inches of snow on the ground....I'm looking for my policy and procedures manual now.

in my office you can take up to 10 days of sick time if a family member is sick (with a note), say your sister has a baby, or your husband broke an arm....there is no issue using sick time with other family members...apparently it's all because of the snow...which wasn't even bad, I would have been on time if this thing hadn't happened with my aunt...

I understand what you're saying, when I worked in the private sector that was the deal...
