What kind of sewing machine do you have? Sewing tips/advice welcome!
I just bought a Brother XL 2600i. It's basic, with 25 stitches, blind hem, threader, bobbin winding, etc. But I don't know if I should go out and get the one with all the extra features, like 75 stiches. I know our Grandmas had Singers with 5 stitches and they did amazing stuff, but I don't want to buy another one next year because I shortchanged myself this year.

I have a Husqvarna Viking. Not too sure of the style name or number. I would have to look.

OMG do you know how old you're making me feel! I have a Singer with 5 stitches!!!! I guess I must be the same age as your Grandmother!!! I've had it for years and it works fine, in fact, when I took it for a cleaning a few years ago they said it was a good solid machine with metal parts and better than the newer ones with plastic parts. It doesn't do the fancy stuff but it works for me.

I loooove my grandmother's machine. It's so easy to use and totally reliable. I guess I'm just dazzled by all the extras that expensive machines offer that I'll probably NEVER use. And I figured out today that the needle is supposed to be ALL the way up when removing fabric. I was removing fabric with the needle partially up and rather than two tails from the upper and lower threads being pulled through, I was getting extra upper thread. Only took me 3 hours to figure that one out!

I just bought a Singer 30 stitch a couple of weeks ago, and it works very well. Target was selling it for about $90.
