We do not have active termites but knew when we bought our house there was pre-existing termite damage from the past (who DOESN'T?!)

But I am asking because, long story short, I called an exterminator because I thought we had termites on the deck but it was instead just flying ants.....anyway, he checked the rest of the house and noticed the damage in the garage from the previous owners.....then gave me this WHOLE sales pitch about how termites never really leave, they live deep in the ground and you can't see the damage their causing, etc. All of this makes sense, especially since we're on a slab, but we are trying to research a bit more before going ahead with a whole termite baiting system which is $$$$$.

So, for those that have been through this - I have some questions:

how did you know you had termites? Just from the damage?

How extensive was your damage? It's hard to judge what is a lot since you hear most homes are affected at one point or another.

Also, how much do you pay for your service and who is it through?
