talk to your landlord and see if he'll replace them for you. if you're renting in someone's house, I think it's up to them.

when I had my apt I replaced all of my shades...otherwise I would have been waiting until the cows came home for my landlady to replace them!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

when we had our apartment, we put in all the curtains ourselves, never thought to ask the landlord...

We rented from a complex and the windows had shades when we moved in, but not the sliding back glass door. We bought verticals for those.

We are going to have both...I know the curtains would be our responsibility but I was wondering about the shades/blinds too

That is a very situational answer. My last landlord did nothing for us. This landlord provided the shades.

In our old apartment, the landlord provided the blinds for us, but we did curtains.

When we rented we put in our own shades. You can certainly ask.

Re: Are you responsible for providing your own blinds/shades when you rent??

When we moved into our current place, there were blinds up, but they were pretty ugly and raunchy. We were painting the place to make it our own and decided to get new blinds ourselves and the landlord made us promise to leave the ones we put up when we leave since we were getting rid of her cruddy ones. We didn't mmind getting them ourselves because we wanted colors in some rooms. We got them at home depot and they were reasonable.
