Flat screen TV question...
MY DH wants one to put above the fireplace. We saw this done on "extreme makeover" once and he really liked it. I am not totally sold on the idea. Does anyone out there have their TV set up like this? If so, please post pics. I know it would save us space but I'm not sure if it would look good. DH really wants this for Christmas and I would like to get it for him, I just want to be sure it will look good.

Re: Flat screen TV question...
Above fireplace installs are commonly done.
Just make sure you have enough space from the fireplace and the plasma. I would say at least 6 inches.
Talk to a professional installer about this and they will most likely say the same (but the distance number may be different).

Re: Flat screen TV question...
For what it's worth... I will be doing some sort of "near the fireplace" mount for my plasma.
This is a picture I took when I had the inspector over for my new house. You can see the fireplace hidden behind the seller's big screen TV.
To make the room more spacious... I will be wallmounting my plasma and eliminating that "footprint" from the TV. I will be putting all my cable boxes and electronics up in the bookcase on the top.
Looking straight at that brick wall... that fireplace is on the bottom right. I am thinking of mounting my plasma right in the middle of the wall... diagonally up and to the left of the fireplace. I may change this though... i have to see what it looks like when i get in there with no furniture around.
I can't wait to get in there to start work on this.

Re: Flat screen TV question...
ThreeCats, thanks for the pics. DJPill, thanks for the advice. We have a cobblestone fireplace with a 8 inch wide mantle. I think we would mount it above the fireplace, or use a stand and put it on the mantle. After seeing pics, I think it would look great! Thanks!

Re: Flat screen TV question...
we just put up our sharp aquos 37 inch over the fireplace but we need the installers to come back to fix the wires and hide them.
