Spinoff: Kids, Media, etc...
I was babysitting my Goddaughter this weekend who is 6 y/o, and she's absolutely IN LOVE with the Black Eyed Peas.
We were watching MTV Hits (all music videos) and on comes Fergie's new "hit" London Bridge...and even though I DID NOT understand at first what the video was about, Priyana did...
As soon as she explained what the video was about, I shut off the TV and swore I wasn't having children.
I'm sure I was in the wrong thinking she could watch Music Videos as some are so very provocative, but I didn't think she would correlate the meaning of "london bridge" to "underoo's" and taking them off!

This totally reminds me of that scene from Mean Girls, when the little sister is watching "Girls Gone Wild" and lifts up her shirt.

Either way, when a 6 year old come sup with taking off underpants, it's problematic.
My kids are not gonna watch MTV!

DH & are very, very anal about what Marissa watches. She's 6 and I don't watch MTV or any other TV shows while she's around. She knows enough at her age and I don't want her watching this stuff.

DH and i will also be monitoring what watches. It is such a shame how fast kids grow up. There is plenty of time to be a grown up and not enough time to be a kid, yet some parents seem to rush their kids into adulthood.
What ever happend to hide and seek and kick the can and stick ball? We never see that anymore. When I was 6 I was so busy outside riding my bike with my friends that my mom had to FIGHT with us to get us in the house to watch TV.

Re: Spinoff: Kids, Media, etc...
My DH has half siblings, they are 15, 12 and 11. I cannot BELIEVE what they say, wear and do.
The 12 year old shocks me the most. I think I played with DOLLS at her age and she has boyfriends (and not just cutesy boyfriends) and a myspace. The 15 year old won't actually let me see her myspace (it's private) and there is just a picture of her boobs as the profile pic.
It makes me sad. I know this sounds corny, but I think that innocence is lost so early these days. I don't know.....

HOLY CRAP! I had no clue. I just thought it was another weird song...like many others. That is scary that a 6 y/o would know that!

Re: Spinoff: Kids, Media, etc...
Whenever DH and I go to the mall and see all the young teenagers and pre-teens walking around, we say we're not having kids. It scares us how "mature" they try to be.
I find it VERY hard to watch TV these days and find something on that is innocent and not provacative.

I felt the same way watching my niece dance to Britney Spears "I'm not the innocent"
