Induced mommies....I have another question

Can you tell me about the whole process...what happened when you first got to the hospital...what did they give you...how long did things take to progress. Thanks!

Re: Induced mommies....I have another question

I was induced and the way they get the contractions started is through pitosin. The pitosin on its own can be so painful. My friend was crying when they gave it to her at 2 cm along. One thing you could do through is ask for the epidural first or at the same time and you wont feel anything until you are really far along. Mine was a 15 hour labor- but I slept through so much of it.

Re: Induced mommies....I have another question

Well my cervix wasn't ready yet so I had to have cervidil (vaginal inserts that soften and thin out the cervix but also cause contractions) before the pitocin. Each cervidil is a 12 hour dose. I had THREE. But the third one came out prematurely and shortly after that, my water broke. After my water broke I was still only about 2 cm dilated and they started me on pitocin (WITHOUT the epidural -- they won't give you the epidural until you are 4 cm). So FINALLY about 4 hours later I hit 4 cm and they gave me the epi. I was only allowed to labor for maybe 2 more hours after that and then I needed a c-section. So total, I count it as approximately 37 hrs of early labor and about 4 hrs of active labor.

I had almost the exact same situation but my doctor insisted that I get the epidural BEFORE starting pitocin. I wasn't dialated AT ALL when I got it, and went from 0-10 in 4 hours with the pitocin. I LOVE my doctor for this. After 32 hours of being in the hospital on monitors no food and no sleep, I cant imagine not having the epi first. Talk to your doctor about this BEFORE you go into labor.

I had 2 doses of cervadil and then petocin. I didnt start dialating until the petocin, BUT was started having contractions with the cervadil. I was in labor for 3 days. Just like colesmom they gave me an epidural right away when I started having contractions.

Re: Induced mommies....I have another question

I had 1 dose of Cervidil that was started at 9pm. At 9am it was taken out and Piticon was started. With the Cervidil I had contractions every 12 minutes, with the Pit, my water broke and the contractions were one on top of the other.

My labor was pretty much the same as Stacy's, but I started Cervidil at 7pm and got the pitocin about 9am. I got the epi about 10am even though I was only about 2 cm dilated, I was in back labor and it was horrible. They wanted me on my side most of the time and I couldn't stay in one position for more than a minute. Once the epidural went in I felt SOOO much better. Sarah was born vaginally at 5pm.

thats exactly what happened to my sister..... the cervidil didnt really work for her.. they gave her the pitosin and they started coming faster ans stronger.. finally gave her an epidural which lasted pretty much the rest of the day.. wore off just in time for the pushing!Chat Icon

Re: Induced mommies....I have another question

Pretty sure the does of cervidil is to get you ready (although for some women, its all they need)...I went in at 4PM, had the cervidil put in at 6PM, and removed in the AM...I took a shower and they started the pitocin, They broke my water, I was given an epi, I drifted in and out of sleep, and my son was born at 3PM...

Re: Induced mommies....I have another question

My cut and paste from LIW of Juliette's Birthday:

Woke up at 5am with contractions 20 minutes apart. At 10am, they stopped. I had an 11.30 Dr's appt. I was still only 30% effaced and 1cm dialated. SHe said to go for the biophysical profile on Thursday and if I hadn't had her by then, go to Labor and Delivery to be induced. Then she said, no, just go tomorrow morning and be induced. Then she said it's only 12, she felt bad that I ws so uncomfortable~go up there now. It was early and I still may be able to have the baby today (if the induction worked like it was supposed to...) We get to the hospital at exactly 1.38. COntractions started again. Get inside at 2. They are 20 minutes apart. Then 15, then 5, them 1 minute and 45 seconds all within a matter on an hour! I go for a sono (within this hour and 45 minutes) and teh baby looks fine. We get back to the room and they are one on top of teh other, but bearable. It's now 4.40, and they put in the Cervadil....Holy (*^)%%^! I was begging for drugs by 5.40. They gave me something called Stadol. By 6 something, I was begging for more. Stadol is amazing. I slept through most of labor. They had to give me an epidural though because I woke up screaming bewteen contractions...best part is I don't remember any of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you get a chance, remember teh name of teh drug. It was great! So I get teh epidural and it's about 8:40 and I wake up. I am like ugh...why do I feel contraction only on my right side? IT ONLY HALF NUMBED ME! I was begging the nurse to fix it. By that time, I was fully dialated and tehy couldn't do anything. A little after nine they said that the Dr was going to have me start pushing. About 20 after, I started pushing and she was here at 9.42.

During delivery though I tore my cervix and had to have a bunch of internal stitches, and I have two cuts for teh episiotomy~sorry if it's too much info. It took her a while to stitch it up, but after looking on Google, I see it's not that uncommon.

I pray yours will be as quick and almost painless as mine!!!
