Cruise Girls

If you have been on a cruise, how formal is formal night? Are we talking suits and gowns? Can I get away with a short dressy black skirt and sleeveless silk top? Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Cruise Girls

some go very formal. My first cruise, I went with 2 dresses from Ann Taylor. The last one I went on was just sundresses. I did not feel like lugging clothes on vacation that I would only wear for 2 hours.

Re: Cruise Girls

Depends on the cruise line, some seems to take "formal" more seriously than others. I was on Majesty of the Seas, Royal Caribbean, and I think your outfit sounds fine. You will be surprised how loosely "formal" is interpreted. One woman wore a tight denim dress. Chat Icon

Re: Cruise Girls

Yes, of course you can wear that!

Some people on those cruises never heard of a dress or a suit.
Even if you have a little black dress ( doesn't everyone have on of those?), you can wear that.

I wore this on a formal night...

Re: Cruise Girls

I mainly wore cocktail dresses on the formal nights, DH wore suits 2x and a jacket and tie the other (we were on a 12 night cruise so we had 3 formal nights). What cruise line are you sailing? I think that has a lot to do with the level of formality.

Re: Cruise Girls

DH wore suits on formal night, and I wore cocktail dresses. I didn't see many full length gowns.

your outfit will be fine then. Carnival is a fun ship, not stuffy at all. RCCL is what I am mainly on when I am under dressed. Have a great time!!

Actually, A lot of people did that on the RC cruise I was on. The first formal night, especially. I had a coctail dress on & felt a little underdressed. I had a longer dress, but didn't bring it b/c I thought it would be too much.

Yeah, tha'ts why I asked. For Carnival, you should be fine. We were on Celebrity for our HM and we were constantly underdressed (except for the formal nights).

Re: Cruise Girls

Suits and evening dresses- not necessarily a gown- I wore a black cocktail dress.

Re: Cruise Girls

you can go as causal as a cocktail dress...and as formal a a floor length gown....its up to you...you will see a mix on the ship.

Men usually wear suits...but there will be some who wear a tux.

I usually find that the 1st formal night is a little but dressier than the 2nd

Re: Cruise Girls

I went on 2 carnival cruises and both times the Formal night the woman were in FULL LENGTH gowns and MOST men were in TUXES!!!! I couldnt believe it especially for carnival being so laxed. I am going next week on a Radisson Seven Seas Cruise and they are EXTREMELY strict- we have a formal where I HAVE to wear a gown and DH just may get a tux hes not sure, and for the INFORMAL night that is where the COCKTAIL dress comes in then the other nights are Casual resort wear. So yup Im halling a ballroom type gown and a cocktail dress and DH 2 suits just in case he doesnt get the tux. I dont know its nice but its a PIA!!!! especially to pack!!!!
