CT or upstate NY weekend getaway
My parents are looking to get a way for Fri-Sun in July. They don't want to go far. Anyone have any suggestions for CT or upstate? They don't want to go out east. Thanks!

Mystic, CT is a nice short get away If they're into the Casino thing, there's Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods.
DH and I spent a lovely weekend early in the spring up in Woodstock.
How about the Poconos?

Mohonk Mtn outside of New Paltz. There are some cute B&B's up there, good restaurants... not far from the Culinary Institute, hiking, a thriving artistic community.

DH and I just got back from Ithaca where we had an amazing weekend upstate at DH's cousin's wedding! Here are some pics of waterfalls we saw in Watkins Glenn and Ithaca:
I also like Mohonk Mountain House and the Litchfield Hills in CT.

Yes! We went to a bed and breakfast there for a weekend last year and did all the FDR/Eleanor Roosevelt museums and homes. Loved it!

It's weird that when you live somewhere you really don't think of it in the vacation sense. My dad still lives up there.

Oh, yeah... DUH... I went to Ithaca college. The gorges are awesome, there are vineyards there as well. It might be a bit farther than they want to travel though... about a 4 1/2 to 5 hour drive.

We are going to Mystic this weekend--plans on going to to the beach and Block Island, RI--there is a ferry from Conn.

I agree...I'm also from the area and it does sound weird to hear Hyde Park as a vacation spot.
BUT on the otherhand...when I lived up there...we did in fact "vacation in LI" visiting relatives and going to the beach.
