MIL Vent
So DH and I went over to my MIL's house on Saturday for a BBQ and shared the news that we are in contract for a house. Her only response was "It's too far away." No congratulations or anything. Then she asked us how much we're paying for it and when we told her that we don't talk about things like that with anyone, she got pizzed off at us. This woman never has anything good to say to us. The only time she ever calls us is if she needs something. Needless to say, this is making it very hard for me to be happy about something that I should be excited about.

Yes, congratulations! Don't let her spoil your happiness. You're buying a house and that's awesome and all the better that it's far away. My MIL drives me crazy that way, too. But she doesn't care about how much money we spend and things like that, it's just more about how everything affects her.

If you were buying the house a block away she would say it was too close and if you told her how much it was she would have something to say about that.

buying a house is a huge accomplishment!!!!

i also want to add-
sometimes i feel like my family would rather have me living in a tiny cramped apartment making a crap salary on LI versus owning my home at my grat job in CT...its like, they would rather see me every weekend... then have me be well off at a place an hour away. so i feel your pain!
