Question for working parents

The last two months of work have been much more stressful than usual and for about a month, I was so worn out every night when I got home. I kept saying to myself "I can't imagine doing this if I had kids!"

So my question is this: When work is stressful, does the family life make it even more difficult, or does coming home to the children sort of get your mind off all the other stuff? Or is it a little of both?

DH and I have been talking more about having children lately, so I have been thinking about this a lot. Any thoughts?

I think it totally depends on who you are, but for me, I always thought coming home from work to a sometimes screaming baby would make me more nuts, but honestly, it has really helped me to leave work stuff in the building and focus on being home. I actually relax MORE now than ever in the past.

I believe it is a little bit of both, when you don;t have kinds and you come home forma stressful day at work, you rest! When you have kids, no matter how hard your day was at your day job, you come home and you have to work again till the moment yoru head hits the pillow.

On the other hand, having a child really grounds you and makes you realize that in comparising to well being of your family, everything else is increadibly unimportant and is not worth stressing about. You basically just do your job the best you can, check off and go hoem to yoru reall life! And when you see that smile that is just ment for you and those fat little cheeks, nothing else matters!Chat Icon

I think it's a little of both. When DC runs to you when you come through the door and gives you a big hug, you forget the day you had. Now when he goes to sleep at 7:30pm and I realize that we still don't have dinner ready, dishes in the sink or laundry that needs to be done it can be overwhelming at times. I've just learned to put stuff off til the weekend or do a little at a time during the week.

I think this describes iit perfectly. Running home to DD is the best joy a person can get! I just love to see her cute face and hold her and kiss her and play with her.

I also nurse her when I come home, so it is some down time for me when I can put on the TV and relax a little. And having her in my arms is just the most amazing feeling.

I agree with this completely. I love my job and will go above & beyond, but without question the most important in my life is my children. And NOTHING makes a crappy day at work better than coming home to the screams & hugs of "Mommy! Mommy's home!!"

Personally, I don't obssess about work all the time like I used to. My mind is home and not at work. There's no time to obssess about work. It's a pleasant change.

I think it is a little bit of both. For me when I get home I just try my best to forget about everything going on at work so that I can focus on the family.
