Laguna Peek: If you've flipped your dial anywhere near MTV this summer, chances are you, too, are wasting away your beautiful summer days just as I am--with our good friends over at The Hills. Sure, we should be doing something more meaningful (like, say, organizing our sock drawers), but who can resist watching the resurrection of LC and J-Wahl, or bobble-headed Heidi trying to hold down a real job? It's mesmerizing, I tell you!
Still, we longtime Laguna Beach fans know in our heart of hearts this L.A. spinoff is just filler while we wait for the return of the OG O.C. reality romp. It's currently filming its third season, and the good news is it premieres on August 16 at 10 p.m., taking over The Hills current time slot. In the meantime, since so many of us are experiencing withdrawals, I trekked down to the real O.C. last week to meet up with Laguna vets Taylor and Morgan S. and get a sneak preview of season three. Here's what I learned:
It's Gettin' Nastay: "We went to high school with the new cast, so we know all their drama," Morgan told me. "We all hang out. A lot of them were in our senior prom group and all that stuff." "Laguna's so small that if there's a party going on, everyone's there, so we know everything about [the new cast]," said Taylor. "This season, it's more about the fact that they have two groups that don't get along. We had that too, but they're, like, mean about it. I think it's going to be better than any other season, because these are dramatic people. And you know, they've watched us. They know what [the producers] are going to use and not going to use, and they don't waste their time."
Step Aside, Stephen... "I think Chase is the Stephen of this year," Morgan told me. "He's the lead singer of a band. Girls love him. And Kelan, too. He's in the same band." Still, Taylor's putting her money on a newbie by the name of Cameron. "That's Jessica's Cameron," she blurted out, then realized what she said and exclaimed, "Oops!" Yes, boys and girls, she just spilled the beans that J-Wahl's obsessed ex is hooking up with a high schooler
There Are New ******* in the O.C., *****! "One word: Kyndra!" Morgan dished when asked whom everyone will be talking about this season. "Kyndra and Cami," Taylor chimed in. "Okay, I love them, but they're vicious. I mean, they say what's on their minds. They don't hold anything back. We both love them to death, but...I'm glad I'm on their good side." Explain, please. "Like, if there's a party in Laguna," said Morgan, "everyone comes, and Cami will go up to anyone and be like 'What're you doing here?!' She'll yell at them and push them out. She's so funny. Same with Kyndra. They're not scared to do anything or say anything." Taylor interjected, "Or steal each others boyfriends!"
Old Friends Will Be Back: "Jessica still lives in Laguna and we've filmed with her," said Morgan. "I think Alex Hooser has filmed a little bit and Jason, too, because he's connected to Tyler, who's Kendra's ex-boyfriend. Alex Murrel filmed once with us during Christmas." "When you sign [on to the show],
sign for six seasons," Taylor explained, "so even though they've all moved up to L.A. and Morgan and I are away at school, we're still obligated to film at least a few times."
Funny. Apparently Kristin Cavallari didn't get that memo about all that contractual stuff, because as you can see in the video clip above, she says she has no plans to return to any MTV reality show, Hills or LB or otherwise. I know just the Kristin to take her place...
