i agree
the only argument you could make against that though is that unlike pete rose, they allegedly didn't bet on the sport they were involved in

i agree
the only argument you could make against that though is that unlike pete rose, they allegedly didn't bet on the sport they were involved in
this might be a long investigation

Is there a problem with sports players/manager/owners placing legal bets on other sports? I don't understand why it would be a big deal as long as they are not betting on their own sport. I think Gretzky should get in some type of trouble b/c he knew that his wife and assistant coach were involved and didn't say anything. However, I don't think he should lose his job or be banned from hockey because of this.

I'm interested to see what happens if he was involved. If he's not punished as severely as Pete Rose, will that make MLB change their mind and allow Rose into the Hall of Fame? I think he's still banned, right?

To be honest I didn't even know this was illegal for them to do.  The fact that there is a whole ring involved I thinks makes it so much worse. It's going to be interesting how the whole thing plays out.

I think the problem with Pete Rose was he bet on baseball. I think the two situations are different. So far, there has been no evidence that the people involved bet on the sport they played, managed, etc. If he didn't bet on hockey I don't think he should be banned from hockey like Pete Rose was from baseball. Gretzky has not been implicated in the betting yet. He knew about it, but did not place bets. Of course, who knows what information will come out over the next few weeks.

Yeah, I just figure it's going to come out that they were betting on hockey as well. But maybe they learned from Rose and figured it wouldn't be so bad if they were betting on other sports. I shouldn't jump to conclusions.
