Financial Planner
I was wondering if anyone uses a financial planner? If so, can you share his/her name. What have they helped you with? Do you recommend, etc?

We go to a guy at Gilman & Ciocia.
At our first meeting, he went through all our investments, our debt and reviewed our financial goals and then made a few suggestions. From there, we made some changes.
Now we just go once a year for review and after a major event (like buying a house).
You just want to be careful that you choose someone who is not going to give you investment advice based on where they get commissions.

I have used two, both from Smith Barney.
I changed to my husband's when we co-mingled our accounts. I still have my previous Financial Planner take care of my Dad's account as I am his power of attorney.

Thanks everyone. Yes, definitely I am interested in a certified financial planner. I don't know much about it nor have I used one. But I think its a good idea to sit down with someone and develop a short terma and long term plan.
So please name, phone numbers or email would be great for anyone you recommend. And yes someone not just trying to make money off comission.
If its an hourly rate, how much does it run?

I use Marie Taylor, with Edward Jones Investments.
She's located in W. Hempstead. I like her a lot, because when I started with her I had very little $$. But she didn't care, she was always very attentive and helpful.
Well after I sold my condo, I had a lot more $$ to invest. And she is just as helpful now as then. DH uses her now - he was with Schwab but didn;t get personalized attention so he switched.
