Research!!!

once you come up with an idea of where you want to go, research like crazy to see where you can get the best quote from. then, after you do that, you can also try to see if theres a travel agent that can get you an even better deal than that. That's our usualy strategy, anyway.

know someone with an inside line - or deal with a discount broker - there are alot of them online

I don't know if this will help. But DH and I just booked an Alaskan cruise for the end of May. We were going to book directly through the cruise line. My mother suggested I go to WalMart.com and go to their travel services. We checked it out and got a deluxe oceanview room for $400 less then offered from the cruise line.

Travelzoo always has some great deals. I don't know when/where you're looking, but we got a great deal at a Couples resort in Jamaica for Nov/Dec.
