When Did You Start Putting Cereal in Your Baby's Bottle? and Did it Make them More Gassy?

My ped told me to start putting 1 tsp. of rice cereal in Katie's bottles. I started doing it yesterday. Now she falls asleep during every bottle (which is a blessing in some ways for those of you who know my story). But I heard it can make her more gassy...and she seems so young to be on cereal. I also didn't even think to ask my ped why he wanted me to do this.

I have read other posts that peds have told moms to do this because it helps w/reflux.



ETA: I don't know about the gas part. DD has always been gassy so I never really noticed a difference when she started cereal.

We never did but when we started Miranda on cereal it didn't make her gassy. We've only used oatmeal though because she has constipation issues.

I did not put cereal in her bottle and rice cereal made her gassy.

I know the rice is supposed to help keep the formula down if the baby suffers from A/R.

They also make a formula with the added rice starch

I never added anything to Molly's bottles.
cereal was fine with her but she did not start eating any until she was 5.5 months old.

Joey was spitting up alot, so the ped told us to put rice cereal in his bottle so it would hold it down. My ped felt that the top of his stomach was not cloing all the way. It helped and he was not any more gassy.

Some people say ti helps them sleep at night, but I never found this to be true.

Their is a formula called Enfamil AR which my SIL uses for my nephew. It is a milk based formula that has rice starches so it thicker and he is doing well on it. Ask your ped. about it. My nephew had mild reflux but was very gassy.

I started putting cereal in his bottle a few weeks ago ( he is almost 3 months) ...he was sooooooooo hungry so now at night after his bath he gets a cereal bottle...i stopped using rice because it bound him up..i use oatmeal he is fine with it!

I started putting rice cereal in Sara's bottles when she was 3 months old. She was sspitting up ALOT and her ped told us to put a tablespoon in each bottle. she still spits up but not nearly as bad and she is sleeping better. Sara is now down to 4 6 1/2 ounce bottles. She has been sleeping from about 9PM - 7:15AM She is not gassy at all either

I am putting rice cereal in the bottle before bed. My DD is 11 weeks
