List of foods to avoid during pregnancy
can someone post or tell me where i can find a list of foods to avoid?
also, is bacon a no-no? i had some today without even thinking and of course, now i am worried! LOL

bacon is fine.
No raw seafood, no shellfish--> mercury levels.
cold cuts are ok-->in moderation
caffeine is ok in moderation
basically, don't anything that isn't cooked or pasturized somehow (certain cheeses are not ok, but that's not an issue for me since I don't like cheese)

Ok, I happened to have the list the doctor gave me right by the computer:
Up to 12 oz. of ocean fishes a week
NO shark, swordfish, king mackeral or tilefish
NEVER any raw fish, such as clams oysters or sushi
NO raw or unpasteurized milk or foods made from it.
No soft cheeses suchs as: feta, blue cheese, goat cheeses or Mexican style white cheeses.
Avoid food from deli counters. Thoroughly reheat deli meats and hot dogs. Discard deli meats after 4 days.
No Caesar Salad, mousse, some custards, homemade ice cream and homemade mayo.
Keep cold foods cold, hot foods hot.
Refrigerators should be 40 degrees or lower
Freezer should be 0 degrees or below.
Caffeine in moderation.
Avoid artificial food colorings and sweeteners.

exactly, the reasoning behind the custards, caesar salad is because raw egg is used to prepare and raw eggs can carry bacteria.
ETS: Store bought and most deli/restaurants to do not use raw egg. It's too much of risk for them even for non pg people.

My doctor told me the same thing. He said cold cuts are fine (they don't need to be heated before eating), as long as they are bought from a reputable place that keeps them stored properly. Just remember that there isn't a greater risk of something bad happening from cold cuts, mayo, salad dressings, cheeses -- but if you do get sick, it's more of a danger for the baby than it is for you or for non-pregnant people. So, just think about when is the last time somebody got sick from these things. The list of fish above has to do with mercury in the fish so should be avoided completely during PG.
