Beta level TOO high?

anyone ever heard of this? My level was 20,796 today, and they said thats high for how far along I am (though I'm not exactly sure how far along I am - I think ~6 weeks)

They said there could be a number of complications or issues that may cause the beta to be too high, so now I'm worried...

I just found this:
5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml

which puts me in the range for 6 weeks.

Sometimes I think seeing an RE has its downside - they're overly cautious and WAY into testing. My regular ob wouldn't have even seen me yet!

Re: Beta level TOO high?

could be twins, but I think it could also indicate an ectopic PG.

Re: Beta level TOO high?

the thing that kills me is she didn't mention twins on the phone, she mentioned "issues/complications".

My thoughts immediately went to twins, but now I'm freaked out. I tried to get more info from her, but she said the doctor would go over it all. I don't want to wait 2 days to know!

Re: Beta level TOO high?

I called back to get more info. The nurse practicioner was more calming than whatever moron called with the info the first time.

She said one thing that causes high betas is a molar pregnancy (abnormal cells but no real baby) - but numbers are usually in the hundreds of thousands then and they're pretty rare.

That that saw a yolk sac today is a good sign. They'll do another sono on Wed looking for a heatbeat and they just want to see how my #s increase over the next two days.
