21st Century Thank You Note Etiquette

I was wondering about this, so give me some thoughts on this.

In this day and age of emails etc, if someone sends you a present for lets say, a new baby, if you send an email with some pictures to say Thank You, do you think that one would then need to send a card out to say Thank You again...

I am a Thank You note sender, however I was wondering about this...

I would say yes a thank you no matter if you sent the e-mail

I'm old school. If the purchaser has taken their time and money to purchase a gift then the receiver should take their time and money (what 50 cents) to send a thank you note.

While e-mail is very convenient it's just too impersonal/inappropriate for certain situations.

I am old fashioned on this too. I prefer a hand written thank you note. However, I realize many people won't do that, and if I do receive a thank you email, I generally am not expecting another one in the mail.

Although I HATE writing thank yous (I make DH do them now) I always make sure I send them and would never do it via email.

I prefer hand-written. It shows that you took a bit of time and put in a bit of effort. I only e-mail thank-you's to one person and that person e-mails me gift certificates as gifts (for Amazon).

My nieces and nephews don't send crap and have no manners at all. I can't stand to be around them. They don't even say thank you unless their parents harass them to.

An email thank you? Never got one but I think its kinda tacky.. I would think that person is being lazy.

I always send a handwritten note but I would not be offended at all if someone sent me an email thank you with pictures-especially a new parent where it may be a lot easier for them to do an email.

When I have to thank people for gifts for Andrew for events (birth, baptism, Christmas, and birthday) I always buy and write out thank you notes.

But when he constantly gets gifts all year round (which is great!) for nothing in particular, I tend to send Hallmark e-cards as a thanks.

Unless I know the sender is a stickler for the old-school way, then I'll send a note.
