Before moving in to your apartment or house..

How did you disinfect it?? Is there anything special to get...or should I just look for something with ammonia??

AND did you replace the toliet seat covers...I deperately want to but FMIL told my FI this will ruin the toilet...is that even true??Chat Icon

In my first apt. I cleaned the place top to bottom before moving in. I used lemon-scented bleach in the bathroom/Kitchen. I was lucky because the place was brand new.

Yes, you can replace the toilet seat. It does not ruin the toilet. You just need the manufacturer of the toilet and go to Home Depot, Lowes, etc. and match the seat to the manufacturer of the toilet if it's not a standard round bowl. If it is you should be able to get any toilet seat.

we used bleach and lysol (not at the same time Chat Icon )... replaced the toilet seat (never had a problem doing this, and it had no effect on the toilet). and we also painted when we moved. wanted make it nice and 'fresh'.

also- windex works well on cleaning the inside of the refrigerator, and Easy-Off for the inside of the oven.

for the carpets, i just used woolite oxy magic to make that feel 'fresh' also (i was too lazy and tired at that point to steam clean them- but thats an option too).

good luck today- its perfect cleaning weather- you can actually open the windows Chat Icon

Cleaned top to bottom. Then hired a cleaning person to keep it up.

I didn't change the toilet seats although I bought them. They were the wrong ones and then I just forgot about it. I didn't die...I didn't get poisoned so I said-screw it.

We cleaned mostly with lysol...everything, even the walls and moldings. We too bought a new toliet seat but the wrong one, left the one we had, but scrubbed that sucker with bleach till I was sore Chat Icon

Scrubbed most of the bathroom with bleach.

My brother and sister, BIL, DH and I scrubbed the hell out of the place before we moved in. it wasn't too bad. The toilet was brand new, so we just disinfected that, too.

Re: Before moving in to your apartment or house..

I think we cleaned for like 4 days straight. The man who lived there before us was clean, but you know how it is when it's not your home, you just want to be extra sure everything is sanitized.

We used a lot of Magic Erasers and a lot of ammonia. Two rounds of oven cleaner.

ETA: We also rented a carpet cleaning machine for the small carpeted area in the basement.

Re: Before moving in to your apartment or house..

I cleaned everywhere with those lysol wipes and steam shampooed and vaccumed the carpet. I also got those liners for all the drawers so that none of my stuff would touch the cabinets. I had the entire house painted before we moved in and we changed all of the locks.
