Did you get a second crib, or did you put your older one in a toddler bed?

Sarah will be 16 months when we have the second, and I'm debating if we need a second crib or if she can go right into a toddler bed. The new baby will go right into the crib from day 1, and I want to be able to set Sarah up in her new room before the baby comes so that she doesn't feel like she's being thrown out of the nursery for the baby.

Thanks for any input!

Joseph was 22 months old when we had Maddie. I realize 22 months & 16 months is a big difference. We didn't get a second crib. We had Maddie in the bassinet until about 3 months & then moved Joseph into a regular bed. We didn't opt for the toddler bed because I felt like it was a waste of money.

We had a 2 weeks from the time we moved Joseph out and the time we moved Maddie in. I agree with you & think it's a good move to set it up beforehand if you can do it.

My kids will be 2 years apart, and I am still debating. While we are moving Andrew to a big boy room and ordering him a twin bed and furniture, he still loves his crib.... so we might be getting a hand-me-down crib and will use that for Andrew for a bit... The baby will be in our room in a bassinet for at least 3 months, so hopefully I can transition Andrew before then.

But at 16 months, I would definitely get a crib, that's just my opinion.

I just wanted to say that Jack is 15 months and there is no way he could be in a toddler bed next month. He still sleeps all over the crib and sometimes wakes up at night. 16 months...I would get another crib or at least keep baby #2 in a bassinet to get a few more months out of the crib for your oldest.

My friends girls are about the same age apart - she set up the baby in the 'nursery' and gave the 2 yr old her own room with a youth bed (with the safety railings)
