I need first name help!!!!!! (girl)
We don't know the gender of the baby
We have a middle name picked out (DH's mom's first name)
We need help with the first name
First Choice - Lillian Barbara (Lilly for short)
Second Choice - Katherine Barbara (DH worries about it turning into Kathy)
But now I'm not sure
any help would be great!!!!!

I will be honest... I think Lillian Barbara sounds like a much older outdated name.
I think Katherine is much more current and can be shortened to Kat or Katie instead.
Also I have a relative who has a dog named Lilly so whenever I hear it I think of that dog

Lilly is so you. But if you're worried about the Kathy thing, you can always correct people if they decide to shorten her name themselves. I do that with Brendan being called Brandon all the time.
I just thought Lilly is perfect for you guys.

Try calling the baby a Lillian and Katherine a for a few days...see if either fits. You can really "feel" the right name.

Both names are nice. A previous poster said that Lillian Barbara sounded like an outdated or older name, which I agree with...but thinking more about it It's really the significance of the middle name and people will hardly ever say " Lillian Barbara" they will call her Lilly. People never knew my brother's middle name was Frances- which is an older sounding name (that he does not like, but it was after my grandpa)

I love the name Lillian. I think it is a classic name. Your child could be called Lilly as a more youthful option while she is still young and may prefer to return to Lillian as she gets older. People called me "Les" as I was growing up all the time. Now, I actually rather dislike being called that by anyone other than close family. I much prefer my full name and not a nickname.

Katie is very cute....but I like Lily too, it's unique. Lillian is an old fashioned name, but I'm sure you won't call her that all the time...although she might get it in school, etc

My name is Katherine, so I'm biased. I've been known as "Kathi" forever, though. OTOH, my 14 year old niece is Katherine and has never been called any nickname (besides brat)!

I also like Lily and I agree with a PP that your child will be called whatever you call them in regards to a nickname. My brother is Christian and my mother does not like nick names and corrected people or his friends when they would call him Chris. Now when people call him Chris he igores them or corrects them.

I agree.As for Katherine, Katie is short for Katherine normally. My name is Kathy - short for Kathleen.

I like both Kate or Katie but we have a problem with using those names
My name is Amy and my DH is Rob -Friends of ours are also Rob and Amy and they have a daugter Kate (not short for Katherine).
