Is it cheaper to rent a house than an apartment?

I've seen some listings of houses for rent that include electric and heat for the same price as apts that don't include electric.

Are there some costs associated with renting a house that I'm not taking into consideration?

many times when you rent a house you have to take care of the yard. Moving, shoveling & whatever else. I find it hard to believe a landlord would rent a whole house & include electric in the rent. How would they be able to gauge how much the tenant uses. Different people can have a bill that varies by hundreds a month. I rented a whole house in port jeff village for a short time a LONG time ago & I paid rent, electric, cable, oil & mowed the lawn with a mower provided by the landlord.

I think it's odd they include heat and electric

I only rented one house- and it didn't include anything-

my new apartment includes heat, water and electric b/c it's in a co-op building and all of that is usually inlcuded in the maintance fee for owners

Some houses do included electric but it's not that common.

Its possible the listings are wrong then. It sounded too good to be true.
