IVF girls...ICSI question

How many of you are using ICSI when you do your IVF?

Because of our male factor issues, our IVF cycle will be an ICSI cycle.

I was watching something on MSNBC the other night and it mentioned that ICSI can potentially cause genetic issues.

Does anyone know about this or NOT done it because of the risks?

TIA

We did ICSI -- the risks seemed minimal to me. DH has low volume and low morphology so really it was a no-brainer for us.

What does your RE recommend? I think the media sensationalizes so much that I don't trust anything I see on TV anymore.

Re: IVF girls...ICSI question

I could be wrong but in our last meeting with Dr. Chu she explained the protocol like this...

They will take half of my eggs (whatever # that is) and do ICSI on that number.

The other half they will let the sperm and egg go on their own.

I'm not sure if they do this with everyone or it's because of my age/diagnosis etc. I can ask today.

ETA: DH doesn't have low sperm count issues. I think it's just to maximize the number of fertilized eggs because of my age and so far I've been a low responder to fertility meds.

The RE recommends ICSI. But even the giant scary packet of information from the RE says there are "unknown genetic risks" associated with it.

Just adds to my nervousness.

T, that's interesting. I'm going to have to ask them if they do that.

Re: IVF girls...ICSI question

I only had 3 eggs - 2 that looked somewhat possible - so we of course did ICSI on all 3.

If they get 10 eggs they will probably suggest ICSI on just the best quality....maybe 4-5?

We did ICSI. My RE wanted to maximize our chances and get the most fertilized eggs. DH did not have any male issues.

We also did ICSI bc of low motility.
