Neighbors Christmas Decorations STILL UP!
ETA: I really wouldnt ask them to take their decorations down...this was just more of a vent...like "HELLO take them down!"
So when do you think it's appropriate for me to ask (tell) my neighbors to take down their Christmas decorations? It's April 24th for crying out loud.
They stopped lighting them around St Pats Day but they still have them up....lights hung from the porch (some falling down) and toy soldiers that stare at me every time I walk out my front door or look out my window.
How do you even ask someone to take them down? Maybe just leave a note in their mail box?

i wouldn't ask. yes, it looks silly and they are probably just lazy, but unless its literally hurting you to look at it, i'd leave it be.
it would drive me bananas too, but i'd maybe "accidentally" know one of the soldiers over....whoops!

I know, really I cant say anything...its just crazy to me to leave them up this long.
Yeah maybe I'll disappear a toy soldier and give it back to them next Decemeber (just kidding).
They had a sled on the front lawn too but put that at the top of the driveway after it almost blew away during a storm.

 i cant believe they were still lighting them!!! i can maybe see leaving the stuff up for a little while, but actually turning it on!! i dont know if you can say anything, but maybe in passing if they're out when youre out, i'd say something about they're electric bill from 'lighting all year long' !

A few years ago there was talk about fining people (Nassau county I think?) for keeping them up passed a certain date (maybe Feb 1). Basically, it was the government's way of trying to increase revenue.
BTW: There is an interfaith minister who advertises on LIW and lives near me... his X-mas lights were up for the longest time this year

Thats actually a good way of saying it to them....are you friendly with them? If your outside and see them one day, you would just go over and say, wow christmas is early for you guys this year! See what they say....

First question are they old people? because i know old people that do leave their christmas lights up because they dont like the climbing on the ladder and all, But If they are young people why would they leave the christmas lights up they are young and active Take them down I agree Leave a note in there mail box i am sure they dont know your handwriting and say Christmas is over please put away the soldiers and take down the lights thank you because if you dont you might get fined!

My neighbor has this Huuuuugeee ceramic Santa that sits in the window ALL YEAR. She actually decorates around him, like she'll make him hold the flag for 4th of July, etc. Very silly but what can you do? Then she asks me why I don't have the snowman cookie jar she gave me out all year? Ummmnnn...no!

You can always tell where the old people near me live. They have cadi's in the driveway and silk flowers everywhere. And lawn statues.

Check with the town- I'm pretty sure Lindenhurst has a law against it maybe your town does to.
I live in Holtsville and for some reason alot of people around here leave them up. No one right near me though. But they do leave litter on their lawns. UGGGG
Seriously, a LAW against it?  Why would they make a law against something as silly as that?
Yes, it's ridiculous that they're still up. If you were to approach them about it, I would say something in a joking manner, but if they want to be lazy and leave them up, that's they're prerogative.

That is the beauty in living in a neighborhood with covenants. The Home Owners Association would not allow that and people can be fined and taken to court.
