I actually wouldn't do a card or flowers--I think maybe that would be a more painful reminder of him not being there with her to celebrate. Maybe just a call to say you're there for her if she needs to talk? Or take her out to dinner and movies to get her mind off of it? Chat Icon

My co-worker's sister died 2 years ago - and now for 2 days a year (the anniversary of her death and on her birthday), they have
"Trisha's Day" Last year they made her favorite food and they each had to go around the room and tell what they liked best about her. Her kids (aged 10 & 13) read poems about her, etc. This year they have to dress up like her, talk like her all day.

I don't think that you can really do that for your dad - but really my point is that, if you can, celebrate his life in some way. If it were me...I think I'd take my mom out to dinner and talk about the best gift he ever gave her, the worst gift he ever gave her, when they were dating, how they became a couple. I don't think a movie is going to take her mind off of it - she knows what day it is.

Good luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon
