TTC teachers
Do you care what time of year you go out on maternity? Will you only TTC at certain times of the year?

Re: TTC teachers
since I do not have tenure, we are trying for a summer baby. of course, that can backfire - a 2nd year teacher down the hall from me got pregnant in October to time it correctly, and by Christmas she was out of work due to complications. We are all dying to see if she is invited back next year!!

Do you think you would take a whole year off when the time comes?

Re: TTC teachers
I am also untenured so we will be trying to have a summer baby. If things don't work out as planned (which is usually the way it happens) I think we will just keep trying no matter when the baby will be born- and pray that I can keep my job!

Re: TTC teachers
No, it doesn't matter to me. I think there are benefits to going out at different times- like, it would be great to have a baby in April or May and then be home till Sept. It would also be great (for me anyway, since I have a long commute) to have a baby in Nov/Dec and get to be out for the worst part of the winter, and not stress about driving.

Re: TTC teachers
I have tenure but I am in a catholic school (which basically means nothing!). We are going to try so that I would get pregnant around March/April so I would just be leaving for the end of the year.... but if it doesn't work out I dunno if we'd try waiting again... still have a few months to think about it!

Re: TTC teachers
Lurking, for now, but I had my daughter the first day of school (how appropriate for a teacher--new beginnings!)! It was great to have nearly my whole 3rd trimester off. I came back right before Christmas vacation and now it's almost March...the year has just flown by! Just something to think about.

Do you mind me asking how long you have been teaching and how did the kids take to you? Did they know you were going to be there teacher? Did you set up the class before going in?

Re: TTC teachers
I'm sure she'll be invited back, unless she was really bad and they were looking for a reason to get rid of her. I think it's disgusting, and discrimination if they don't. Her tenure will just be pushed back the amount of time she was out.

This is my 10th year teaching and 6th in my current school. I teach HS...so I had like 150 students to get adjusted to! It was more difficult with the junior classes because I didn't know any of the students previously and I still don't feel a great rapport with one of the classes (but that's probably typical of any given year). My seniors are great and were really excited to see me back. And yes, I did set up my class in June before I left.

Re: TTC teachers
I teach high school as well. I'm due in August- I will go back to work for the 2nd semester (end of January next year). I'm not looking forward to it one bit. I would have prefered to have the baby in April, miss the end of the school year, and started in September again. But it didn't work out that way. I'm thrilled to be having a baby though!
ETA: Next year will be my 8th year teaching, 4th year in the district.

Re: TTC teachers
I found out I was pregnant a few days after school ended last June. I'm due March 4th and I love the way it worked out. I just left mid-February and don't have to go back until September. The baby will be 6 months old by then. I also think it works out nice because my 1st trimester was over the summer. I was so exhausted my 1st trimester so it was nice not to have to work everyday. Luckily I didn't have morning sickness, but if I did I couldn't have imagined having to deal with that and my kids at the same time.
