Tummy Sleeping
I know there was stuff posted about tummy sleeping ages ago, but I can't seem to find it.
What do your peds say about babies sleeping on their tummies? Noah seems to sleep so well on his tummy so I leave him there, he can't turn over yet, but he has pretty good head control.

I had no choice with my son..He rolled over relatively early and always perferred laying on his stomach. he has been sleeping like that for as long as i can remember (around 4 months I think). He's 25 moths now and still loves tummy sleeping

I'm a big advocate of tummy sleeping. Pediatricians (including mine) don't agree with it. There has been a ton of research indicating that it's a SIDS risk.
As someone who is considered a SIDS survivor, I disagree with the studies. I think more belly time leads to better neck, trunk, arm & leg muscle devleopment.
I spent months with Joseph trying to nap for an extended period of time. Finally I noticed that he would sleep for hours on me, belly to belly. Then one day, I moved him off of me & onto his gymini mat. He slept for 3-4 hours. Then I moved up to naps in his crib, and finally night time.
Later I read up on physical development. There were books that questioned back sleeping. Mammals do not sleep with their underside exposed, etc.
Once Maddie was born, she was put on her belly right away (firm surfaces only).
It's not for everyone, it definitely worked for me. Hope this helps. If you have any questions, feel free to FM me.

Our ped says no tummy sleepinhg until they roll on their own.

I was always under the impression that when they can rool over on their own, it's fine.....when I roll Alyson over, she goes right back to her tummy.
I think if they have good head control too that it's ok, but I'd check on them often.

I agree with you. Logan slept much better that way and he is very strong physically. From very early on he had good head control and could turn his head side to side on his belly. If I was right next to him while taking his naps...what was the big deal? I still check on him incessantly and put him down on his back to sleep, but now he rolls all over the crib.

Sara loves sleeping on her belly. I do try to put her on her side but she goes right to her belly. SHe flips form belly to back and if she does that in her sleep she wakes up and is not comfy.

Thanks for that everyone. I feel quite confident with him sleeping on his tummy...so I check on him every sort of 45 minutes! We are having a sleping nightmare at the moment, so any extended periods of sleep are fantastic for me.
Last night when I came up to bed at around 11.30 pm, I made the mistake of turning him over onto his back and he was up at 12.30 am, 3.50 am, and up again for the day at 5.15 am...
And he doesn't nap...oy vey!!
ETA...I don't really understand this, because before our holiday he slept all night!! I am completely confused and have no idea what to do to rectify the situation!!!

ok - so I noticed DD doesn't fight sleep if she's on her stomach - she rolled off my mom's chest and was on her tummy accidntally one day and ... voila! she stopped fussing and fell asleep - so I did it yesterday during dinner and she slept! but then this a.m. I went to tummy time and she immediately shut her eyes!! LOL now she's sleeping - so much for tummy time
