What do you eat/take when you have heartburn?

Tums are not working for me. I've never had heartburn before until this pregnancy, and last night was the first time it was really bad. I couldn't even put my body on a slope because the acid was so bad. I tried drinking a small glass of milk and that worked a little, but I cannot stand to drink milk, it makes me feel sick. What do you do when you have heartburn???

I have acid reflux pre pg, so when tums dont' work, I pop my nexium

I have always kept a food diary so I know my food triggers, that might help you.
Also don't drink when you eat, make sure you dont' lie down for at least 1/2 hour after eating. Stay away from carbonated, sugary drinks too.

Just today someone told me at night I should take galvascon with 3 to 4 glasses of water.
I just havent looked up yet if its safe for pg people.

I always take tums and then have decaf tea black with some sugar. That usually helps even if I have to have two cups.

I didn't think it was safe to take a PPI (nexium, prevacid, aciphex, protonix, omeprazole) - but I could be wrong. I do know it's safe to take Zantac, and that's what I take at night before I lie down.

i found tomato sauce gave it to me. and i ate ice cream to make it feel better some times it worked some times it didnt .

I take Mylanta and I drink chocolate milk

I have a bag of frozen fruit in my freezer, so what I did last night was to take the canteloupe out and half defrost it. I ate that it made my stomach feel so much better. Then I took rolaids. For some reason, they worked a lot better than tums. However, I need to call my doctor because I seriously feel like there may be a burn in my upper esophogus from this. My mom, after the fact, informed me that as a baby and small child, I had horrible reflux. Lovely, wish she would have told me sooner!

Also don't eat two hrs before bed. DH had this and used to wake up choking on stomach acid He stopped eating late and it has all but gone away. Also ask your Dr if you can take Ranitidine-same thing as other pills but a lot cheaper!

rach i feel like im esphogus is like swiss cheese some times because the reflux is so bad it keeps me up some nights. i never had it before except for when i had cheap red wine but that hasnt been happening the only red thing i drink is cranberry juice. you also eat alot of fruit that could be the reason for the acid reflux since fruit can be very acidic.

I am not preggo yet, but get acid if I eat late at night, and just recently figured out I get acid from garlic, and anything really greasy. If I have some garlic or somehtng too greasy I take some mylanta or a Pepcid chewable. I am not sure if you can use this while pregnant. I also drink a lot of water, and that helps. But after I figured out what provokes the acid I try to avoid those foods unless I want some tomato sauce then I only have a little, and like I said before drink lots of water , and do not eat 2 hours before laying down at night. HTH
