I hate how people assume...
Just b/c you are a certain age and a woman, that you are a mother.
Dh and I went out to eat yesterday, and were having such a nice time, when the host wished me a Happy Mother's Day 
I know it was meant to be nice, but I had to hold myself back from bursting into tears.

I'm sorry Lisa - it stinks, but everyone does it. I remember about 10 years ago the gas station gave me a rose for mothers day

I know....it stinks!!!!!
Next year we'll all be wishing each other a Happy Mother's Day!!!!
At work today I wished a woman a happy M.D. and she said "and you?" I responded, "no not yet, but thank you anyway."
It'll happen for all of us.....I just know it!!!!!

I know this stinks....but, I try to put a spin on this. In many ways I am a "mother" although I don't have any children. I am a teacher, so I feel that I do "mother" my students, so a mother figure can take may shapes!
Although, I do agree that people should never assume anything!

I was wished a happy mothers day a few times over the phone at work today and I felt the same way each time, like I wished they hadnt ASSUMED...My Bil said it to be and says that everyones a mother on mothers day...um..NO they arent, so stop ....
So sorry Lisa this made you upset....Hang in there. We understand

I've gotten it for years. When I was younger everyone asked me about my mother (deceased when I was 8), what I was getting for her etc. Seemslike that question had now morphed into a double questions about my mom and my assumed status as a mother.
