should I go off the pill yet?

we want to start trying in July/August

but everyone's telling me since i've been on the pill for 9 years that i should stop now since it may take a few months (6+) to be able to get pregnant? Is this true?

and what can I expect going off the pill? will i gain waieght or lose it? I am going ona PRE TTC diet this week....

I'm kinda do afriad to go off the pill.... i 've spent my life thinking... "you cannot get pregnant" and now since we're married, have a house it's all of sudden okay.... it's just weird to me... we want a baby so bad but i'm really scared about everything.. $, the house, our lives will change, how will affect our marriage, so many things are running through my head!!!

Everyone's body is different. You will hear of many people who got pregnant as soon as they went off the pill, and then there will be just as many stories of people who needed a couple of months. For me it was 5 months off the pill.
As far as how you'll feel off the pill, again, everyone is different. I found that I didn't really feel much different, though I did have a higher sex drive. My periods were pretty regular after going off the pill, maybe a day or two off.

I was on the pill for over 10 years. I went off 3 months before TTC and I got preggo the first try

I had the same questions because I have also been on the pill for about 10 years. I went to my Ob/Gyn and I explained everything to her----that we might be starting to TTC in August and how long I was on the pill ect......So she told me to stay on the pill till we were ready to try.....She said going off the pill for a few months before TTC is an old wives tale----some doctors like that you go off so that you can get you "schedual" down, but there is no need to. She said you are most fertile when you first go off the pill and it might slightly increase your chances of getting pregnant quicker. She also gave me a sample pre-natal and told me to try them out when we start to TTC and then if I like them, give the office a call and they will fill a prescription for me. She also told me to start exercising regularly if I am not, take a multi-vitamin, and watch my fish consumption (I am vegeterian and eat alot of tuna ect....)
She was really helpful and really calmed my nerves. I highly reccomend just making an appointment and talking if you trust them and are going to be with them through the whold TTC and pregnancy process

I debate this all the time. I think I am going to stay on the pill until we TTC. (Even thought I hate the pill!)

I was on the pill from 17-25 years of age and I went off right after the wedding but we didn't try for 4 months after that.

We just used condoms when we didn't want to get PG and when we did want to try....GAME ON

I will be off the pill for a year before we TTC. Honestly, this is month #6 off, and I think my period is finally regular!! My first few months my cycles were 40+ days. We are trying hard for me to deliver in the summer, as I do not have tenure. The only way that is hopefully going to work, is if I know my cycles and my body. If timing isn't an issue, it's up to you.

I was on the pill for 8 years too before coming off it. I wasn't concerned about getting pregnant right away, my first concern was getting to know my cycle, since it was a little screwy. It was all over the place when I came off the pill, so it is good to come off it and track your cycles for a bit. Iwas doing that when I got PG, so it worked out for us in both aspects!

I was on the pill/patch for a total of 7 years or so. i decided to come off because of all the horrible things i was hearing about the patch and my decreased s3x drive.

The month I came off I was PG.

I have been off the pill since last May and my cycles still have not regulated.

But- i didn't have regular cycles before going on the pill either.

There is no way of telling.

I was on the pill for 9 years too. I went off the pill before we were really going to start TTC because I was afraid that it would take a while for my cycles to become regular after such a long time on the pill. But I never had a chance to find out if my cycles would be regular because I got pregnant the 1st month off the pill. I've heard that you are the most fertile the 1st month, but I don't know if that's really true or just a coincidence.
