You will NOT believe what happened to me on the subway this morning!

I am 32 wks preggo, it is obvious that I am pregnant...no mistaking. My belly is out there!
Anyway, I have NEVER been offered a seat on the subway and today as soon as I get on the subway someone offers me a seat. I was shocked!! Chat Icon Who offers me a seat you ask? I LITTLE OLD lady. She looked like she was in her 70s, I of course declined the seat even though I was dying to sit down. How can I take the seat of a little old lady?!! You would think the people around her who all saw that she offered me a seat would offer me their seat.....NOOOOO, they either put their head down, looked away or went to sleep.

I just couldn't believe it....sorry it's so long, I just had to vent.

It is sad that the only "respectful" people left (besides all of us) are the old ladies.

that's ridiculous! i can't believe some people...

ETS: the same thing happened to my aunt. she was never offered a seat her entire pregnancy and she worked in the city up until her 9th mth and she was large! well of course what happens? she went back to work 2 mths after having her baby boy and one morning a stranger offered her a seat thinking she was pregnant! she initially was offended but then decided - what the he*l and took the seat for all the times that she needed that seat! I remember giving my seat up many times on the subway for a preggo lady...and of course, I would say very loudy something like, "well, at least some people still have manners".

ETA: Sorry that you had to deal with that Chat Icon

Oh i am so sorry. I can't believe people in the city...it makes me sick. Back when me and DH both worked in the city we were on one of those crowded LIRR trains and a very pregnant lady came on and was standing. Mind you ne and DH were almost half way back...not one person offered her a seat, so my DH got up and not only offered her the seat but took her bag and led her there.

I watched all the people and not one looked up.....I have never seen a woman so happy by my husbands generosity.

that really makes me mad.
if I were you- i would go up to the people on the subway that are sitting on the seats for the "disabled" and ask them what they are disabled from.

Re: You will NOT believe what happened to me on the subway this morning!

That's exactly why I stopped taking the train into work when I hit the third trimester! I remember when we flew to Las Vegas when I was in my 6th month... the airport was soooo crowded and we had to take one of those shuttle buses to get to the plane. The bus was veering so much and I was stumbling all over the place and not a soul was offering me a seat. So, the bus driver looked back, saw my little belly, STOPPED THE BUS and said, now, will someone please be polite and give this pregnant woman a seat? Everyone looked so embarrased and FINALLY a woman got up and let me sit down!!

Always a woman who will get up. Men will never ever do it. I hope to teach my son more manners than these "men"

Sadly, I am not shocked. I remember so many times people look the other way or pretend to not see you and then, as soon as someone offers a seat, all the heads pop up with this "oh I didnt see you otherwise I would have offered my seat" look on their faces. Pathetic!

That is terrible!! I always gave my seat up for pregnant ladies and sometimes older people (I really offended someone that way Chat Icon ). BUt you are right- it is almost always women who offer get up for pregnant women.

When I am on the East Side- it is MADNESS. People are so rude and pushing. The 4/5/6 train is just helll.

But I am pleasantly surprised at how nice people are on the West Side. I have never had a problem on the 2/3 train. People always offer their seats- even when I don't need it (if I am going 1 stop). The fact that I am 5'8 and tower over a lot of people may also help.

Re: You will NOT believe what happened to me on the subway this morning!

People are rude these days. I've had people see me trying to open the door with a stroller and my big pregnant belly and just turn and look away instead of helping me.
UNBELIEVABLE!

All I can is that my heart goes out to you commuters while pregnant! I don't know how you do it. I am so grateful to drive to work and not have to deal with all the stuff you guys do each day. You are heros!Chat Icon

I can tell you that when I took the LIRR the rolling eyes I would get when I would ask someone to s'cuse me so that I can take the seat there bags were occupying!Chat Icon Mostly by men in suits.

I can also tell you I was totally shocked one day on the subway when a total hoodie/gangsta looking guy stood up & offered me his seat. You just never know who has manners & who doesn't.
