3 week old and keeping them awake...sleeping question

I've heard varying advice on babies and sleeping. Some people said to try and keep your baby awake as much as possible so they will tend to sleep more at night - others say that's a joke - that babies will do what they want and just let them be ...

any advice from you guys out there?

"sleep begets sleep"... meaning, the better baby naps during the day, the better baby will sleep at night. If you wake baby, he/she will become super cranky and overtired, making it insanely difficult to put him/her down at night...

ITA!! If my DD takes great naps during the day, she'll usually sleep through the night.

she seems to know when we put her in the bassinet at night...and doesn't like it - she wants o be held or use my breast as a pacifier - just wondering what else I can do to help her get to sleep

I completely agree. When they're overtired, they wake more often & sleep restlessly (and this isn't just for babies - same goes from toddler to pre-school - so far).
