Stupid question about dress altering & swatches

I am in my friends wedding - she wants a swatch of my dress for the florist and such. If I just cut off some from the bottom (I am short and it will have to be taken up), that shouldn't be a problem, right? They will just be cutting that part off anyway?

If you know you've got the extra material on bottom, don't see why not

Or she can call the bridal shop (if you ordered from one) and they may have swatches on hand as well?

If she wants to use it as ribbon to wrap the flowers she should use what is from your actual dress b/c different dye lots may come out differently. If she is using it just to match flowers then the swatch from the bridal shop should do.
