whitestone area - sort of NR
I've been working in whitestone for about 6 years. I take the cross island to utopia Blvd. Exit and get on the Cross island service road.
Anyway, on the service road there is a house (new build) that has been boarded up since I've started.
Just wondering if anyone know the deal with the house?

Yes, that's it.
Yeah I assumed the same thing...that the "owners" ran out of money. But it's been there for so long boarded up.  There was a similar new construction house on Utopia and 32nd Avenue which was empty for the LONGEST time (it wasn't boarded up though) and now finally it has a for sale sign.

I believe that they were not allowed to finish construction because the contractor was trying to put a two family in a one family zone...he basically got busted...that house has been like that for almost ten years now...I think it would take alot of money for someone to come in and convert it back to a one family home...thats why its still as it is...

Ten years!!!! WOW!!! but now the value of the land is so much more than it was ten years ago. I was thinking is was a messy divorce

I asked a family friend who is a real estate appraiser in the area about the house tonight and she said the same thing about the house. I didn't know it had been 10 yrs though. WOAH!!

the house was actually built in 1994!! 
and i think Beaver is right, they tried to make it into a 2 family.

Yes this is true. They tried to make it a 2 family and werent allowed or something like that. My coworkers lives around there and its right near my job. Apparently the house can go for over a million though
